چکیده

1. Problem 2.42 We assume (reasonably) that each time we try to catch an animal this is as likely to be caught as any of the remaining uncaught animals. The number of ways we can capture 5 tagged animals out of the 10 animals previously tagged is ( 10 5 ) . The other 20-5 = 15 animals are untagged (belong to the remaining N 10 animals) and therefore can be captured in ( N−10 20−5 ) ways. It follows that the probability that 5 animals out of 20 are found to be tagged if we have a population of N animals of which 10 were previously tagged is: ( 10 5 )( N−10 20−5 ) ( N 20 ) = P5(N)

Another View of the Classical Problem of Comparing Two Probabilities

The usual calculation of the P-value for the classical problem of‎ ‎comparing probabilities is not always accurate‎. ‎This‎ ‎issue arose in the context of a legal dispute which depended on when‎ ‎some written material was written in a diary‎. ‎The problem raises‎ ‎some issues on the foundations of statistical inference.‎

Heuristic Approach for Specially Structured Two Stage Flow Shop Scheduling to Minimize the Rental Cost, Processing Time, Set Up Time Are Associated with Their Probabilities Including Transportation Time and Job Weightage

The present paper is an attempt to develop a new heuristic algorithm, find the optimal sequence to minimize the utilization time of the machines and hence their rental cost for two stage specially structured flow shop scheduling under specified rental policy in which processing times and set up time are associated with their respective probabilities including transportation time. Further jo...

On the Energy Efficiency-Spectral Efficiency Tradeoff in MIMO-OFDMA Broadcast Channels

This paper investigates the fundamental energy efficiency-spectral efficiency (EE-SE) relationship in a multipleinput multiple-output (MIMO)orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) broadcast channel (BC) with a practical power model considering the power consumption due to the number of admitted users as well as the number of active transmit antennas. However, with this power model...

Nested identification of subjective probabilities

The theory of games against nature relies on complete preferences among all conceivable acts (case 1). Aumann and Drèze (Am Econ J Microecon 1(1):1–16, 2009) consider situations where preferences are defined only for a given set of acts (case 2). We extend these results to situations where (i) only the set of optimal elements from a given set of acts is known (case 3); (ii) only a single optima...
